The Collection at the Adidas Originals Store Berlin Pt II

Here's part II of my selection for the Adidas originals Store's reopening after an
intense remodeling.
So the fact that I chose these models, probably comes to no surprise for many.
These three definitely represented the American influence on Berlin fashion. Because
Basketball was not the most popular sport in the city and sport shoes where just
becoming a fashion statement, if you wore one of the following models in the 80s or
90s in Berlin, you had some sort of connection to the states.
Either you lived in the American sector, went to an American school, had American
relatives or just watched this crazy rap video on MTV and had a good connection to
someone at PX.

One pair is pretty special in this trio.
Not only because it is not mine, but mainly because it belongs to my older sister Laura
and it is the very same pair, that fueled my love for sneaker in my teenage years, when
she rocked these.
That baby blue Adidas Forum hi and more infos after the jump

ADIDAS FORUM – *1984

The flagship among the basketball / hi-top stylers and the most hyped luxury model.
The Forum was the most technically advanced basketball shoe on the market at its time
and wearing it was a statement to either be a professional player or belong to hip-hop
culture.
White with baby blue stripes was the ultimate 90s look; difficult to get and incredibly
expensive (225-250, -DM).
The pair on display is from the 1990s.

ADIDAS RIVALRY – *1986 (1. RETRO 2013)

The Rivalry was particularly well represented in the Hip-Hop scene of former West-Berlin from
the late 80s to 92/93 (Wedding, Charlottenburg, Schöneberg, Kreuzberg).
It was one of the most sought-after hi-top models because it was much more elegant and sleek
than the Attitude, but not as technical (and expensive) as the Conductor, and it was also released
in many different colors. The different colour options sparked the interest in collecting and fashion
in many and as part of the Ewing collection the model quickly reached cult status.
The pair on display is from the 1980s.

ADIDAS CONDUCTOR – *1987

For streetballers who also wanted to own on the street. The Conductor was hard to come by and
still very popular. Unbeatable and always recognizable in the white-blue-red color scheme that
Patrick Ewing wore in advertising.
The Conductor was the most technical basketball shoe and very popular in former West Berlin,
because of its ‘American colors’.
Especially in the American and British Sectors (where American brands were actually predominant),
it was a respectable representative of the three stripes.
The pair on display is from the 1980s.
