20 years of Space Jam

For the 20th anniversary of the movie Space Jam, the Berlin Braves 
organised an exhbition of vintage merchandising and sneakers affiliated 
with the film at the Kickz Store Berlin Torstraße. 
I contributed some sneaker from my collection to add to Joey's 
impressive line-up of merch, rare gems and special editions. 
At the opening on the 9th the original movie was playing downstairs
accompanied by pop-corn, sandwiches and donuts. 
A great evening with a nice exhibition, video games and drinks ended 
with tree lucky winners taking a Space Jam package of the Jordan XI 
home.

1971 Nike Unknown Vintage aka ”Flyte Suede”

Thick suede, a gum outsole, golden sewed tag and round shoe laces…
compared to shoes of the same era, this model has a unique design.
A misterious vintage model from 1971

The most unusual characteristic is its tag. As one can see, it is 
embroided with a golden thread on black nylon material. 

The insole is also interesting. A much thicker sponge than other 'made 
in Japan' models.

So let's check out the eara, these originate from:
After testing sample at several production sites, Nike decided to 
order their first Cortez from a factory in Taiwan. 
The picture from Nike Chronicles shows the same kind of production 
print inside. 

Unfortunately there are no catalog pictures of this model, but it's 
high quality materials lead me to believe, that not many where made.

Vintage NIKE OTC meeting 2015 @ SHIBUYA Tokyo

Last week the Nike Mania Vintage Meeting was held in Shibuya for the 9th 
time, with the theme 'waffle sole'.

Some beautiful pieces were brought to the table like Oregon Waffles 
from as early as 1972, LD1000s, Elites and Daybreaks,

unused waffle soles for resoleing

special Sebastian Coe edition of the Terra TC with a "SEV" heel.

An old version of the Blazer with a superstar-ish toe cap (!)

and these prototype T-shirts and jackets with the old Nike windmill and 
Athletic West logos.

Happy Birthday adidas

Did you know that adidas is celebrating its 65th birthday today, 18 August 
2014? On that day, 65 years ago, adidas was registered in the Herzogenaurach 
trade register.

They were off to an interesting start… Adi Dassler registered his company 
after splitting from his brother under the name of “addas” on 16 June 1948. 
The below logo of the “Ass” shoe shows a trainer with only two stripes.

 
A year later, Adi was forced to re-name his company as a Frankfurt-based 
company called “Ada-Ada” threatened to take him to court. So Adi changed 
the name of his company, simply adding an i to the existing name – thus creating
“adidas”, by sheer conicidence. This “Spezial” race shoe from 1949 shows the 
new logo, and the shoe now has three stripes.

cataloges from 1949

Sunday Goodie: 1991 Adidas Equipment Catalog

Former Nike marketing chief Rob Strasser introduced Adidas Equipment 
to the world in 1991, a move to help generate more sales through a 
difficult period for the company. Equipment featured the best of Adidas, 
everything that is essential and noting that is not. The original Equipment 
included Torsion running, tennis, basketball, squash, volleyball, Training 
& Adventure.  

Filled with the entire line of first Adidas essential equipment footwear. 

Includes the Adi Dassler story, photos of the Equipment shoes along with 

a product description, tech info, marketing plans, etc. Everything is 

written out in three languages (English, German and French) for the 

global markets.
