I am surprised people where so after these retroes, when one can have the real deal for half the price?! ...Then again, the coulour is trendy right?
I'm of legal age for whiskey, voting and loving. Now the next election is two years away, and my love life ain't getting much better, so how about some of that one-hundred-percent!
I am a passionate woman and a perfectionist. With everything I do, it´s either all or nothing. This doesn´t only mean sticking to my descitions with total commitment, but also questioning my methods, execution and myself. When it comes to style this means knowing it´s history and being aware of the facts that it´s about details and subtleness. This is why one should appreciate an original for it´s design, it´s origin in the fine arts, social and historical context. The interrelations of the cited above justify a product like the Converse Chuck Tailor or a Cazal 607 to gain cult status. Overdoing it like a russian nouveau riche or a hipster dressed in neon coloured 80´s polyester top to bottom is just as horrific as wearing pink laser Jordan IIIs – a typical symptom of style plagiarism. Good design isn´t cheap and cheap design isn´t good! I have great respect for anybody who´s handling things that way, but of course it´s each to their own. A picture I saw this morning made me think about all this....
It would just drive me crazy, that the lacing is all messy!
After browsing Size for some must-haves to prepare myself for the short trip I am taking to the UK this weekend, I ended up with £ 864,97 in my checkout box ......oops. Here are some previews for fall 2009 and no end in sight!
Getting up early on Saturday is a big deal for me, as it is usually my only day off and I am such a nightbird, but since it was for a good cause I made my way to take care of my Livestrong donation today.
I do wonder though, why after all these years I am still the only woman in a circle of men? I mean c´mon, girls are supposed to love shoes, right?
However, it was a nice morning apart from the weather and I enjoyed hanging with the guys making me smile, as always.
But after all there is more to Livestrong than just bikes and sneakers. Here is another facette of the foundation, to raise awareness, represented by STAGES. The global art exhibition launched by Lance Armstrong and Nike is an interesting project bringing artists like José Parlá, KAWS, Kenny Scharf, Shepard Fairey and Geoff McFeteridge together to raise funds for the fight against cancer.
After packing and unpacking, wrapping, tapeing, nightmares of lost, smashed or wet boxes and carrying the whle lot back into my apartment, my babies are back at last. Praise the sneakergods for bringing them home save! I can finally sleep unconcerned.
SNEAKER EXPO OUTERSPACE Featuring more than 700 pairs of pure heat, the Sneaker Expo exhibition stood in the limelight in the Outerspace area at The Brandery, the forthcoming Urban Fashion Fair which was held in Barcelona during July 7th, 8th and 9th. For the very first time in Europe over 700 historical models of exclusive sneakers that made history and reflected the ideology of each decade were displayed in an exhibition, entirely put together by the collectors Marco Colombo from Milan, Italy, Eddie and David Fauks from Paris, France, Christian Sachse aka "InBerlin35", Lars Vetter aka "Kelle", "Tony Toupet" and myself aka "Sneakerqueen" from Berlin, Germany. Showcasing the cream of the crop from the 70´s till today the exhibition takes the visitor on a journey through sneaker history with iconic models from brands like Nike, Jordan, Adidas, New Balance, Converse, Asics, Vans, Airwalk, Le Coq Sportive and Diadora. Rows of wooden crates with glass windows revealed a collection of some of the most rare and vintage that ever been seen in one place. "The financial and emotional value of these sneakers is so high that some of the collectors utterly refused to send their models by conventional mail, fearing their treasures might get damaged" sais Henrik Kürschner aka "Artoo", the creative director and Vans contributor of the exhibition.
Definite highlights of the showcase where 70´s running models with special make-ups, original Jordan 1 Metallics , KO´s and prototypes, Adidas Superstars, Ewings and artists series like the Run DMC El Dorado, skateboard sneakers from the 80s in incredible conditions and mostly with their original boxes as well as various sought after and hyped models from different collaborations after 2000. The Sneaker Expo in Outerspace was undoubtedly one of the most exclusive areas at The Brandery, Barcelona 2009
