Nike OTC Meeting 2019
I have been blogging about the following event for almost ten years, hoping
to join one day.
In January that day finally came and I had the wonderful chance to go to
this year's Nike OTC Meeting in Tokyo!
The theme for 2019 was deadstock before 1985.
After all the see-and-be-seen hype events of the past years, this evening was
so refreshing, being able to spend some quality time with like-minded
collectors, nerding out over the craziest sneaker heat and making new
friends.A big thank you to Nic, Shin-Ichiro and all OTC members for inviting
me into your microcosm and making me feel so welcome!
I am hoping to make this a regular, so I am very much looking forward to see
you all next year!

Nike Fast Lab
I spent the last two days at the Nike Fast Lab to check out what the
brand had been working on an get a sneak peek at what's soon to come.
There is a small recap of the impressive space after the jump, but
you can have a look for yourself tomorrow:

The Ten
Virgil Abloh and Nike announced their new design project “The Ten”
The 10 shoes were divided into two themes. The first, “REVEALING,” was
designed to look accessible: hand-cut, open-source and reconstructed.
It includes the Air Jordan I, Nike Air Max 90, Nike Air Presto, Nike Air
VaporMax and Nike Blazer Mid.
The second, “GHOSTING,” was designed with translucent uppers to further
the idea of revealing and unite the second set of silhouettes through common
material.
It includes the Converse Chuck Taylor, Nike Zoom Fly SP, Nike Air Force 1
Low, Nike React Hyperdunk 2017 and Nike Air Max 97.
In one gesture, I wanted to underscore how the design system and
manufacturing of Nike are so perfect,” says Abloh. “By combining these
shoes with design that amplifies their ‘handmade’ quality, we’re
intensifying the human element and expanding the emotional connection of
these 10 icons.”
Nike will host “Nike Off Campus” events in New York City and London to
celebrate The Ten through presentations of the full collection and
exchanges about the ideas that inspired it. "Nike Off Campus" will take
place in New York City from September 6 to 8 at 23 Wall Street and in
London from September 14 to 19 at NikeLab 1948 LDN.
The first five icons of The Ten — the Air Jordan I, Nike Blazer, Nike Air Presto,
Nike Air Max 90 and Nike Air VaporMax — will be pre-released at NikeLab
stores in New York City (Sept. 9-13), London (Sept. 18-22), Milan (Sept. 21-25)
and Paris (Sept. 26-30).
The full collection including all ten silhouettes will be available in November
at NikeLab stores and select retailers worldwide.

Nike Boston 73
40 years ago, a young runner received a package as he prepared for
Boston. That runner was Bill Rodgers. And the package came from
Oregon legend Steve Prefontaine. Pre sent Rodgers a short note along
with a pair of running shoes.
They were Boston 73’s, created by a company called Nike.
The shoes fit a little loose, but they were the best he owned.
Rodgers would tighten them as he toed the starting line come race
morning. Two hours, nine minutes, and fifty-five seconds later, he
went on to win the race and break an American Record.

Vintage NIKE OTC meeting 2015 @ SHIBUYA Tokyo
Last week the Nike Mania Vintage Meeting was held in Shibuya for the 9th
time, with the theme 'waffle sole'.
Some beautiful pieces were brought to the table like Oregon Waffles
from as early as 1972, LD1000s, Elites and Daybreaks,
unused waffle soles for resoleing
special Sebastian Coe edition of the Terra TC with a "SEV" heel.
An old version of the Blazer with a superstar-ish toe cap (!)
and these prototype T-shirts and jackets with the old Nike windmill and
Athletic West logos.
